Thank you to everyone who contacted us regarding the recent bug that caused the app to crash when using location services in iOS 10. Version 3.5 has been released to address this issue.

Historical Markers presents the location and descriptions of over 140,000 historic markers across North America. Users can access detailed plaque descriptions, photos, and links to online historical information repositories. The app enables users to view markers near their current location or explore the entire marker catalog directly on their device. Notably, Historical Markers features thousands of markers with full plaque text sourced from the Historical Marker Database (HMDB.org) and detailed place information from the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Designed for individuals interested in discovering local history wherever they may be, Historical Markers offers:

Access to over 71,000 markers from the Historical Marker Database
Information on more than 76,000 markers from the U.S. National Register of Historic Places
Inclusion of marker images and surrounding area visuals
A GPS utility for displaying markers in proximity to the user's current location
Text-to-speech functionality for voice dictation of marker descriptions on the go
Area search feature for specific addresses or cities
Comprehensive search tool to filter through markers efficiently
Ability to email marker information without exiting the app
Creation of a personalized list of favorite markers
Viewing history log to help track previously browsed markers
Integration with social media platforms for sharing favored markers
Offline database support for app functionality without an active data connection
User-selectable search radius for improved performance on older devices
Multithreading capabilities for enhanced performance

We have recently added the ability to favorite individual markers and a feature to differentiate previously viewed markers based on user feedback. Please note that Historical Markers collates data from the Historical Marker Database and the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Local markers not found in these databases will not be displayed within the app. To include a local marker in the Historical Marker Database, visit http://www.hmdb.org. Stay tuned for a forthcoming update that will allow users to upload marker information and images directly from their iOS devices!
